The MVS Resistance
I realize that some C Tech’s MVS users are resisting migrating to Earth Volumetric Studio because they are a bit daunted by the need to use Python syntax in modules like node_computation vs. the non-standard “equation” syntax used in modules like data_math and field_math. I encourage you to submit examples of your most complex equations to support@ctech.com and I will be preparing a short tutorial on how to use node_computation and to demonstrate just how easy it is to do these same operations in Earth Volumetric Studio. By...

C Tech has changed our Accounts Receivable address for all payments. This address can be used for both U.S. Postal mail and courier shipments (e.g. FedEx, UPS). It is with great sadness that I announce that Dr. Christopher Rautman, C Tech’s Chief Geologist passed away on May 12th from complications related to an ongoing illness. I’ve known, liked, worked with and respected Chris since we first met ~20 years ago when he was at Sandia National Laboratories. The first projects he tackled with our software included the Yucca Mountain Nuclear Repository and the salt domes and solution mined caverns used to store the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserves. Over the years that Chris was at Sandia,...

We have just posted two new series of public training videos for Earth Volumetric Studio. The first series is on 3D Kriging in three parts: Part One focuses on krig_3d, some of its basic properties and discusses the limitations of its flat-topped rectilinear gridding in anticipation of Part Two. Part Two demonstrates how easy it is to incorporate krig_3d_geology when doing 3D kriging so that your grid is conformal to site topography and/or includes site stratigraphy. Part Three introduces draw_lines and triangulate_polygons to create a...

We have just posted a new series of four training videos on modeling Stratigraphic Geology. The first three cover rather basic topics related to the creation of stratigraphic geologic models, but the fourth and final video in the series tackles the more complex horizon_ranking module and how to use it to control hierarchy when you have intersecting stratigraphic horizons. All four videos are available on the public Training Videos page.
