Earth Volumetric Studio 2020.10: The October 2020 release of EVS brings many improvements and a long-asked-for thickness module.The thickness module provides the ability to compute the (vertical direction) thickness of any complex object. For those who have asked how to do this in the past and we said it wasn’t possible and would require a complex ray-tracing approach: that is what we needed to do. This provides the ability to do all of the following (and more): Compute the thickness of plume, intersection or union outputs Thickness can be added to the objects as new data, or Thickness of an object can be projected onto another object, such as the ground surface. The thickness of stratigraphic layers can be computed following any type of cutting operations such as: surf_cut tunnel_cut cut The thickness of lithologic materials (from indicator_geology) can be determined. There are some sample applications that demonstrate the thickness module in the Total HC at a Painting Facility folder of Studio Projects. IMPORTANT NOTE: As we announced at the end of 2019, C Tech does not support Windows 7 as an operating system for Earth Volumetric Studio. Previous versions would still install and operate. 2020.10 is the first release which will not work on Windows 7. Some of the dependencies we use (such as Python) no longer function on Windows 7, and this release is the first where we have disabled the ability to install on Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 machines. You will need to upgrade to Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 to install 2020.10.EVS Major Improvements:  Python scripting: We have upgraded to using Python 3.9 (the latest release) from Python 3.5.2. The new integration also works properly with more user-installed python extensions, such as numpy and Pandas. Kriging modules: We previously used a different Power Factor (1.0) in exponential and gaussian covariance functions. We changed this to 3.0 to be consistent with SGeMS, but provide this parameter. Realization modules: Multiple enhancements related to internal data and functionality such as Min-Max outputs mask_geology module: Dramatic speed improvement trigger_script: More (nearly all) items can be used as triggers and will work as expected now. LSDV and LPDV file formats: Improved handling within modules and creation/editing Tools Percent Units: Improved consistency and functionality in post_samples, legend and elsewhere....

Release of Earth Volumetric Studio 2020.5

The last time I was this excited about a software release was August 2016 when we released the first 64-bit version of Studio.  In many ways, the May 2020 release is far more significant.  However, before I list the new features you will be able to enjoy, I need to make you aware of the requirements to run Earth Volumetric Studio 2020.5. All Enterprise and Floating license customers must uninstall their current license servers and install and configure the new CTech Universal License Server. Instructions are here. This new server will support all prior versions of Studio as well as MVS. The 2020.5 version of Studio will not run with any prior server. There are many new features in Studio 2020.5, but I think that most users have been waiting for the first one listed: EVS Presentations: Allows Enterprise and Floating license customers to create EVS applications that include the data and can be viewed by their clients and management without needing a license.  Installation of Studio 2020.5 will be required for those creating EVS Presentations as well as those viewing them. This release also includes our Patent Pending Fast Geostatistical Realization© (FGR©) technology, which is an extension of Gaussian Geostatistical Simulations. This applies to 2D & 3D analytical data, Lithologic Modeling and Stratigraphic Geologic Modeling.   There are several new Studio Project apps that demonstrate these capabilities. Two new Lithology data file formats offer the ability dramatically improve your Smooth Lithologic Modeling efforts. LSDV (Lithology Screen Data Value) files are an enhancement to PGF files in that they accommodate both non-vertical borings and lithology data with data-gaps. LPDV (Lithology Point Data Value) files are the more significant format which supports lithology as points (vs. intervals). Imagine including surficial geology maps to your lithology data for your Smooth Lithologic Modeling efforts. Earth Volumetric Studio Projects has been substantially enhanced. Back in August 2016 there were fewer than 200 sample applications.  This release has nearly 450. Thank you all for your patience. Earth Volumetric Studio 2019.7.1

We are pleased to announce the release of Earth Volumetric Studio 2019.7.1. This release features two new modules that provide new capabilities that offer exciting capabilities to customers who strive to achieve photo-realistic representations of their sites. The read_wavefront_obj module reads single image Wavefront OBJ files which can represent photo-realistic 3D textured buildings drawn in software like 3D Studio Max or reconstructed LIDAR data and drone aerial photos like the model shown below. The other new module is read_geometry. The read_geometry module will read STL, PLY, OBJ and .G files containing object geometries. It doesn’t read (include) the textures, but it gives you access to the surface data as fields so it can be used for subsetting or model creation.
