Earth Volumetric Studio 2018.5

I encourage everyone to take the time to read this announcement fully, since this software release rivals the significance of the original Earth Volumetric Studio release in August 2016, and other issues mentioned in this email are critical if you want to continue to receive announcements. I won’t recap the history of C Tech as I did nearly two years ago, I’ll just focus on what is new and why it is so special. Earth Volumetric Studio 2018.5 In addition to a large number of bug fixes, stability improvements and minor enhancements, there are a few game-changing new features in this version that are sure to improve your work. When Studio first released, there were several new features as compared with MVS, such as Python scripting, fully 3D variography, and the 64-bit architecture which lifted the limits on model size. However, there weren’t many fundamentally new modeling or visualization tools until now. I’ll list them according to my personal priorities. Smooth Lithology: We’ve had adaptive_indicator_kriging for quite a while, but it has always been problematic and far from perfect, which is why we’ve deprecated it as of this release. Now, we’ve added a “Smooth” option to the indicator_geology module as well as a number of additional features such as the ability to use external grids and map lithology into multiple stratigraphic layers. The new Smooth option works perfectly.  It has no holes, it has the smoothness of stratigraphic modeling, and generally can get by with much coarser grids, while still achieving excellent results. Earth Volumetric Studio Projects 2018.5has many examples in the Lithologic Geologic Modeling folder. Real-time Editing of Stratigraphic Geology: We’ve always given you lots of options when creating stratigraphic geologic models. There are: several Estimation Methods; Thickness Space; Pinch Factor; Normal vs. Reverse Hierarchy; and even the horizon_ranking module. However, if you wanted to truly change the shape of your horizons the only option we could offer was to add additional (synthetic) points to your data file. The new edit_horizons module allows you to interactively edit any and all of your stratigraphic horizons (surfaces) by adding probed 3D points which instantaneously modify your surfaces. You’ll need to see it to believe it. Project Hand-Drawn Cross-Sections on 3D Fence Diagrams:...

Major Release of Earth Volumetric Studio 2016.9

Earth Volumetric Studio 2016.9 has been released and is available for immediate download.  New sample projects and an updated PDF Converter have also been released. We certainly can’t claim that this software release rivals the August release which was the formal release of Earth Volumetric Studio and our first 64-bit software version. However, it does offer some very important features that will affect virtually every user and therefore, I encourage you to take a few minutes and read this email carefully so you understand the important changes that we’ve made.   3D Publishing: For those who have embraced 3D Publishing to either 3D PDFs or Sketchfab, you are almost certainly familiar with the texture_colors module and the fact that it is essential to creating good 3D PDFs and that has been incompatible with Sketchfab. You’ll be surprised then to find that we have deprecated texture_colors. However we have a great reason. Virtually all modules in Studio now create output that uses texturing for coloring. This means that the coloring challenges for 3D PDFs are gone. For those of you who haven’t used texture_colors before, it provides significantly improved rendering of surfaces, especially those with high gradients. The changes we have made will make everything you do look better. Sometimes it will be a subtle difference and sometimes dramatic. The greater news is that we’ve figured out how to make Sketchfab support textures, including texture_colors type coloring, textured geologic layers and aerial photos. This means that Sketchfab and 3D PDFs are virtually identical in their ability to create 3D model content. You’ll also find that colored lines like axes and streamlines work in both 3D PDFs and Sketchfab. There are still limitations to both of these media, but both are dramatically improved. New 3D PDF Converter Required: With these changes, a new 3D PDF Converter was required. It is on our website for download and everyone with current maintenance (all Premier customer are automatic) can install it and it should run without any license updates from C Tech. If your PDF Converter license is out of maintenance, this new version will not run, but you can contact sales@ctech.com and we can provide a quote to bring your license up to date. The Release of 64-bit Earth Volumetric Studio 2016.8

Earth Volumetric Studio 2016.8 is now available to download. I hope that you will forgive my being a bit long winded in this announcement, as I feel this is truly a momentous occasion for C Tech and our customers. C Tech has been in business now for 27 years and I have personally been involved with 3D modeling and visualization for 39 years. I saw the need for Environmental Visualization System (the original EVS) in 1989 and we had our first commercial Unix-based software available in 1990. However, in 1994 when Windows NT was released we were ready with a product for Windows and our market took off. Over the next 22 years our software grew and evolved into a line of products that included the 4DIM Player, EVS for ArcView, EVS-Standard, EVS-Pro, MVS and the EnterVol for ArcGIS product line. When we started on EnterVol over 5 years ago we tried to step back and not be restricted by backwards compatibility with EVS & MVS and there were some interesting advances that came from that. At the same time that EnterVol began we started brainstorming the next generation of our EVS product line, which brings us to today’s announcement. For those of you that recognize that today we offer only two primary products: Earth Volumetric Studio and EnterVol, you might wonder why our product line has shrunk. The answer is our users. We listened to the frustration of users with EVS-Standard or Pro who needed MVS features but couldn’t convince their management to upgrade. We see our EnterVol suite of products as our entry level software and Studio as our flagship. We wanted all of our EVS & MVS users to be able to take advantage of all of the amazing features we were developing in Studio, so about one year ago, we decided to offer only a single version of Earth Volumetric Studio which would be a super-set of MVS functionality. Nearly 4 years ago we reached out to a select group of users, we nicknamed the MVS Influencers. They were chosen, you might say, because they were the proverbial squeaky wheels. These were the users that our tech support group heard...

Release of EnterVol Product Suite Version 1.8.2

C Tech is pleased to announce the release of EnterVol 1.8.2 for ArcGIS 10.1, which includes a number of enhancements over version 1.8.1. New or improved functionality in EnterVol includes: Dramatic speed and memory improvements throughout the product.  Loading models is significantly faster in 1.8.2. Dramatic improvements to stability and performance in many routines EnterVol 1.8.2 can be downloaded at client.ctech.com. For those installing EnterVol for the first time, the software will run for 15 days as a fully functional Trial...
