Release of Earth Volumetric Studio 2020.5

The last time I was this excited about a software release was August 2016 when we released the first 64-bit version of Studio.  In many ways, the May 2020 release is far more significant.  However, before I list the new features you will be able to enjoy, I need to make you aware of the requirements to run Earth Volumetric Studio 2020.5. All Enterprise and Floating license customers must uninstall their current license servers and install and configure the new CTech Universal License Server. Instructions are here. This new server will support all prior versions of Studio as well as MVS. The 2020.5 version of Studio will not run with any prior server. There are many new features in Studio 2020.5, but I think that most users have been waiting for the first one listed: EVS Presentations: Allows Enterprise and Floating license customers to create EVS applications that include the data and can be viewed by their clients and management without needing a license.  Installation of Studio 2020.5 will be required for those creating EVS Presentations as well as those viewing them. This release also includes our Patent Pending Fast Geostatistical Realization© (FGR©) technology, which is an extension of Gaussian Geostatistical Simulations. This applies to 2D & 3D analytical data, Lithologic Modeling and Stratigraphic Geologic Modeling.   There are several new Studio Project apps that demonstrate these capabilities. Two new Lithology data file formats offer the ability dramatically improve your Smooth Lithologic Modeling efforts. LSDV (Lithology Screen Data Value) files are an enhancement to PGF files in that they accommodate both non-vertical borings and lithology data with data-gaps. LPDV (Lithology Point Data Value) files are the more significant format which supports lithology as points (vs. intervals). Imagine including surficial geology maps to your lithology data for your Smooth Lithologic Modeling efforts. Earth Volumetric Studio Projects has been substantially enhanced. Back in August 2016 there were fewer than 200 sample applications.  This release has nearly 450. Thank you all for your patience. I know that many users have been waiting for this release and EVS Presentations for months. I hope your customers will appreciate the new power you are able to give them.  Thank you, Reed...

Studio Projects 2019.10

We are pleased to announce the release of Earth Volumetric Studio Projects 2019.10. This release is appropriate for all users of Earth Volumetric Studio 2019.9 and later. We encourage all users to download and upgrade to Earth Volumetric Studio Projects 2019.10.

Earth Volumetric Studio 2019.9

We are pleased to announce the release of Earth Volumetric Studio 2019.9. This release includes important bug fixes as well as improvements to the volumetrics module. We encourage all users to download and upgrade to Earth Volumetric Studio 2019.9.

Earth Volumetric Studio 2019.7.1

We are pleased to announce the release of Earth Volumetric Studio 2019.7.1. This release features two new modules that provide new capabilities that offer exciting capabilities to customers who strive to achieve photo-realistic representations of their sites. The read_wavefront_obj module reads single image Wavefront OBJ files which can represent photo-realistic 3D textured buildings drawn in software like 3D Studio Max or reconstructed LIDAR data and drone aerial photos like the model shown below. The other new module is read_geometry. The read_geometry module will read STL, PLY, OBJ and .G files containing object geometries. It doesn’t read (include) the textures, but it gives you access to the surface data as fields so it can be used for subsetting or model creation. The release also includes numerous enhancements and bug fixes to improve usability. We encourage all users to download and upgrade to Earth Volumetric Studio...

Earth Volumetric Studio 2018.5

I encourage everyone to take the time to read this announcement fully, since this software release rivals the significance of the original Earth Volumetric Studio release in August 2016, and other issues mentioned in this email are critical if you want to continue to receive announcements. I won’t recap the history of C Tech as I did nearly two years ago, I’ll just focus on what is new and why it is so special. Earth Volumetric Studio 2018.5 In addition to a large number of bug fixes, stability improvements and minor enhancements, there are a few game-changing new features in this version that are sure to improve your work. When Studio first released, there were several new features as compared with MVS, such as Python scripting, fully 3D variography, and the 64-bit architecture which lifted the limits on model size. However, there weren’t many fundamentally new modeling or visualization tools until now. I’ll list them according to my personal priorities. Smooth Lithology: We’ve had adaptive_indicator_kriging for quite a while, but it has always been problematic and far from perfect, which is why we’ve deprecated it as of this release. Now, we’ve added a “Smooth” option to the indicator_geology module as well as a number of additional features such as the ability to use external grids and map lithology into multiple stratigraphic layers. The new Smooth option works perfectly.  It has no holes, it has the smoothness of stratigraphic modeling, and generally can get by with much coarser grids, while still achieving excellent results. Earth Volumetric Studio Projects 2018.5has many examples in the Lithologic Geologic Modeling folder. Real-time Editing of Stratigraphic Geology: We’ve always given you lots of options when creating stratigraphic geologic models. There are: several Estimation Methods; Thickness Space; Pinch Factor; Normal vs. Reverse Hierarchy; and even the horizon_ranking module. However, if you wanted to truly change the shape of your horizons the only option we could offer was to add additional (synthetic) points to your data file. The new edit_horizons module allows you to interactively edit any and all of your stratigraphic horizons (surfaces) by adding probed 3D points which instantaneously modify your surfaces. You’ll need to see it to believe it. Project Hand-Drawn Cross-Sections on 3D Fence Diagrams:...

Major Release of Earth Volumetric Studio 2016.9

Earth Volumetric Studio 2016.9 has been released and is available for immediate download.  New sample projects and an updated PDF Converter have also been released. We certainly can’t claim that this software release rivals the August release which was the formal release of Earth Volumetric Studio and our first 64-bit software version. However, it does offer some very important features that will affect virtually every user and therefore, I encourage you to take a few minutes and read this email carefully so you understand the important changes that we’ve made.   3D Publishing: For those who have embraced 3D Publishing to either 3D PDFs or Sketchfab, you are almost certainly familiar with the texture_colors module and the fact that it is essential to creating good 3D PDFs and that has been incompatible with Sketchfab. You’ll be surprised then to find that we have deprecated texture_colors. However we have a great reason. Virtually all modules in Studio now create output that uses texturing for coloring. This means that the coloring challenges for 3D PDFs are gone. For those of you who haven’t used texture_colors before, it provides significantly improved rendering of surfaces, especially those with high gradients. The changes we have made will make everything you do look better. Sometimes it will be a subtle difference and sometimes dramatic. The greater news is that we’ve figured out how to make Sketchfab support textures, including texture_colors type coloring, textured geologic layers and aerial photos. This means that Sketchfab and 3D PDFs are virtually identical in their ability to create 3D model content. You’ll also find that colored lines like axes and streamlines work in both 3D PDFs and Sketchfab. There are still limitations to both of these media, but both are dramatically improved. New 3D PDF Converter Required: With these changes, a new 3D PDF Converter was required. It is on our website for download and everyone with current maintenance (all Premier customer are automatic) can install it and it should run without any license updates from C Tech. If your PDF Converter license is out of maintenance, this new version will not run, but you can contact sales@ctech.com and we can provide a quote to bring your license up to date. Please note: VRML files...
